1969 saw the end of the original Avengers TV show , and like the Beatles changed music forever I guess in a way The Avengers changed T.V forever , it was quite revolutionary in its own unique way .. which brings me to the 1971 stage show, directed no less by Leslie Phillips C.B.E(yes that Leslie Phillips!!who else lol) John Steed (played this time by Simon Oates, Macnee felt it wouldn't translate onto the stage) is teamed up with a new partner Hannah Wilde played by Sue Llyod to do battle with Madam Gerda and her 30 strong army of evil henchwomen ..so lots of leather and pvc was on display all designed by John Sutcliffe of Atomage fame (I'll feature a post about his work soon)

Actually I now think The Avengers would make a good stage play (especially the early episodes as they were live theatre in the first place)may give Spiderman a run for it's money
